5 tips on how to exercise effectively

Many people who haven't had a habit of doing exercises regularly find it very difficult at the beginning. Most people even end up giving up sooner or later. It can be especially challenging when working out on your own.

Here are a couple of tips I have compiled that have proven to work for me. I am not an expert in fitness and workouts but by applying some simple principles I have been able to make some progress ๐Ÿ˜‰.

1. Have goals
(wayin)

Why are you exercising? Maybe you want to lose weight. Also an athlete (or even just a casual) you want to be always in top shape hence workouts. Others may just want to get a couple muscles to impress their friends.

Anyway, the point is that you must have a goal. A study (mine of course ๐Ÿ‘€) shows that purpose in work makes you more motivated and gives you a sense of accomplishment in the end.

Your goal also determines the kind of exercises you need to do, the rate at which you are expected to progress and for how long (it's generally good to continue working out even after reaching your goal).

2. It's easier in a group

When you are working out (especially for the beginners) it's good to have some beside you, either as a mentor or as a partner.

This has shown to greatly improve the speed at which you progress because it creates competition. And competition generally helps us to exceed our own limits. Hence a better result.

People that work out in groups are less likely to give up.

3. Make it a habit
It can be easily shown that the more you do something the less mental and physical effort you require to do it again.

One of the signs that you are making progress is that you no longer feel lazy to go to the gym or to go on that jog that you have planned to do. Habits mitigate laziness.

4. Take pleasure in it

Working out must not be a burden to you. Your attitude is very important regardless of your goals. The more you enjoy exercising the easier it will be to continue doing it.

5. Challenge yourself

The day I started viewing exercising as a challenge is a day I actually started to enjoy it. And that's where success lies.

The fun and excitement comes when you tell know your limits but still try to cross over.

During a training session, let's I have to do push-ups. If I think my limit is 5 then I would try to do double that so that if I ended up doing 8 that while crying I would have made progress.

But note, it only works if you're honest with yourself. Don't pick something that you know you can easily do ๐Ÿ˜.
